The Grid
For our final project of 3rd year spatial design, we were given a relatively open brief that asked us to create a dwelling of some kind that considered what the future might hold for the way we live. I chose to look at large scale housing. I was interested in community and how people can live in harmony both with their environment and with other humans. I created "The Grid" in response to this brief. This was a building complex built where the Kilbirnie bus depot in Wellington is now. It has three sections: high density, family, and student living. I looked at how the green spaces in between would be implemented, and looked at keeping the space accessible for all socioeconomic groups and avoiding gentrification. We also had to learn about the building code and had to make a drawing set. I did a set of one of the family dwellings (pictures below). Project Blog: https://emilydwellingblog.tumblr.com/
